The objective of this study was to estimate the medical cost of pregnancy outcomes using data from national vital statistics(National Statistical Office of Korea) and national fertility survey(Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs) and 1993 medical insurance statistical year book(National Federation of Medical Insurance).
The estimated total number of pregnancy in 1993 were 1,2312,787. The distributions of pregnancy outcomes were 717,307 in live birth, 474,441 in induced abortion and 121,039 in spontaneous abortion.
The direct medical cost by pregnancy outcomes in nation wide estimated 196,082,324213 won in term pregnancy, 66,001,696,880 won in induced abortion and 16,454,343,745 won in spontaneous abortion_ The average medical cost for delivery and induced & spontaneous abortion was about 212,173 won per pregnancy.
